For the week of May 12, 2013 I am using the Dreaming Way Tarot by Rome Choi, illustrated by Kwon Shina (U.S. Games Systems, Inc.).
|Dreaming Way Tarot|
Rome Choi describes the suit of Swords as "rational, masculine, progressive, air, and mind." It's a suit about decisions, judgments, and efficient action "without regret."
The image on this version of the 3 of Swords is, like many other versions, not a pleasant one. Three swords are touching a woman's chest and stomach. The woman's eyes are closed, as if she cannot bear to see what is happening or perhaps chooses to pretend it isn't happening. She is clearly shutting something out, refusing to face it.
As I see it, this card could mean that this week I need to be aware of the potential for "stress, betrayal, disturbing news, fear of germs, heartache, rejection, alienation" (Choi). Or it could refer to a continuing need to deal with something of that nature that occurred in the past. I may have an opportunity to confront, work through, and move beyond an injury.
Love the imagery here... was looking online @ amazon's tarot selection & came across this deck- never saw it before- now I want to invest in it!ReplyDelete
Hello Violet! Thanks for stopping by. I also like the imagery in this version of the 3 of Swords -- lots of food for thought.Delete
Nice image for the card. I wonder if it could also mean that perhaps this week you need to be aware of those negative thoughts you may have that can cause you pain or distress. The swords are just touching the lady not piercing her in anyway, so perhaps it's about not allowing those negative thoughts one may have to touch them this week.ReplyDelete
You know the other thing about this image that grabs me is that she wears brown, it sort of indicates keeping things stable, real. Maybe those swords are a perceived injury we think we have rather than a reality. Anyway just my two cents worth.
Excellent points, Helen! It does look like she almost has some sort of "force field" around her preventing the swords from penetrating, with her eyes closed in concentration. It reminds me of the 9 of Swords, which can also refer to imagined injuries or threats. I'll do my best to "keep it real" this week.Delete
3 of swords. Its always a make or break card for me getting the deck. I don't know why but its the card that calls to me. The hermit is another I like a lot. The dreaming way tarot definently has a graphic picture for the 3 of swords. I love your blog.ReplyDelete
