Animal Guides for Zodiac Signs

I believe that people usually have at least one primary animal guide, spirit animal, or totem animal whose spirit is with them throughout their life, as well as many secondary animal guides that come forward as needed during specific situations or stages of life. It occurred to me that I might be able to identify an animal guide or animal totem for each of the zodiac signs.

I will be doing this from time to time, with the intention of sharing which animal is acting as a guide or totem “right now” for each sign. For today’s reading I am using Steven D. Farmer’s Messages from Your Animal Spirit Guides Oracle Cards, illustrated by Bee Sturgis and published by Hay House.

ARIES.............................................. TAURUS.....................................................GEMINI

Aries

Dear Aries, your totem or spirit animal right now is the CHAMELEON. If you are a typical Aries-Sun person, you may not think this creature could possibly be of any use to you. After all, Aries Rams are the last ones anyone would expect to “blend into the background.” As an active, cardinal, fire sign, Aries usually tries to lead the charge or, at the very least, make their presence known to one and all. But maybe, just maybe, right now you need to hold back a bit, dear Aries. It’s not about being passive. It’s about waiting, containing yourself until you know it’s the right time to step up and be noticed.

Taurus

Dear Taurus, your totem or spirit animal right now is the DOG. You already exhibit the characteristics of loyalty and faithfulness, but in this case the Dog may be calling your attention to the need to decide whether you are trying to serve too many masters. Not only that, dear Taurus, but you may need to ask yourself “why” you are trying to serve those people or things. The Dog may also be encouraging you to think about whether all of these “masters” really deserve your loyalty and faithfulness. You may wish to honor someone as your teacher without obeying them as your “master.”

Gemini

Dear Gemini, your totem or spirit animal right now is the SEAGULL. This is certainly a fitting creature for an Air sign, don’t you think? In this case, we are looking at a bird flying over a large body of water. Since the element water represents the emotions or subconscious, the Seagull may be trying to help you express your emotions, whether by sharing them with another person, recording them in a journal, or simply paying closer attention to how you feel about something. Your sign ruler, Mercury, is the planet of the mind and intellect, so the Seagull may be encouraging you to bring your head and heart into balance.

Cancer

Dear Cancer, your totem or spirit animal right now is the ZEBRA. It is not unusual for someone with a Cancer-Sun to be fearful. As a water sign, you are highly sensitive and easily hurt, retreating into your shell when threatened. The Zebra reminds you that when you feel afraid, dear Cancer, it can be helpful to consider whether it is your thoughts about circumstances or events that are frightening you rather than the circumstances or events themselves. Scorpio

Oracle Horoscopes for October

Aries (Mar. 21 – Apr. 19)

COMMUNITY (39) – It’s all about connections to other people this month, Aries. This means family, relatives, friends, and any like-minded folks. It could refer to organized groups or casual get-togethers. At work, the emphasis is on teamwork and creating a positive working atmosphere. Whether you’re being helpful or receiving help, hosting or being a guest, celebrate having good people around you and appreciate the qualities of loyalty and cooperation. Significant number: 3

Taurus (Apr. 20 - May 20)

WEALTHY MAN (13) – Taurus, this month you are likely to experience your native “bullishness” in the form of money, possessions and/or career success. Perhaps you are in close contact with someone who exhibits these qualities (an employer, a company or business?) or maybe the card refers to you personally. Either way, be on the lookout for opportunities and chances. Significant number: 4

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)

LOVERS (15) – I have to point out that The Lovers card in the Tarot is linked with the sign Gemini AND this card is #15, a number that reduces to 6 (1+5), which happens to be the number on The Lovers tarot card. Gemini, this could be about love or a romantic relationship between two people, or it might point to any type of loving relationship or friendship, even a chance to create harmony between your own heart and mind. Significant number: 6

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)

IMPRISONMENT (29) – Not a pretty picture here, Cancer, but let’s look into it. You may experience a sense of being confined, isolated, or “stuck in one place” this month, either because of someone else’s actions or beliefs or your own. You may feel trapped in a relationship, job, or situation. So often, we are prisoners of our own thoughts, perceptions or feelings, and this month seems like a good time for you to consider what that might mean. Significant number: 2

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22)

FALSE PERSON (8) – For Leos, the month of October brings a warning to look out for a person or people who are being dishonest or deceptive. At the very least, a mistake or mistakes require correction. Be wary of trusting everybody or everything you see (or think you see). At the same time, you are encouraged to examine your own motivations and ask whether you are “being yourself” or wearing a disguise in a situation. CONCERN (33) – It’s not unusual for a Virgo to have “Concerns.” After all, Virgo is one of the most anxious, worrying signs out there. During this month you may experience or encounter a more deep-seated form of angst, inability to focus, even depression, especially if it is unclear what can or should be done in a particular situation. The elderly man on this card could be someone you know or might represent an inner quality of your own that wants to dominate and “catastrophize” things this month. Try to understand the root of the problem and how that might be overcome or offset. Significant number: 6

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22)

TOIL & LABOUR (38) – Your daily work – perhaps very hard work – takes center stage this month, Libra. This could refer to your job or your home life, perhaps a sense of being burdened, unappreciated, or put upon. Somehow this has become part of your daily routine as you go round and round as if on a hamster wheel. The monotony and lack of inspiration or challenge are taking their toll. Time to double-check the things you see as your “obligations.” How many of them actually are obligatory? What can you let go or reduce in order to gain some free time in which to enjoy yourself? Scorpio (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21)

HIGH HONOR (25) – Hold your head high, Scorpio. This month brings trophies, medals, honor, success, promotion or something equally edifying to your ego. You may not receive an actual 21-gun salute (as shown on the card), but your skills, knowledge, and achievements will be recognized. Aquarius (Jan. 20 - Feb. 18)

Cancer: MAN (28)
It’s a “guy thing” this month for you Cancers – with the focus on a husband, lover, partner, soulmate, mentor, father, brother, or colleague. June looks to be a learning month for you, Virgo, as you increase your knowledge or wisdom in some area of life. Libra: TREE (5)

Scorpio: CROSS (6)
Yes, dear Scorpio, the Cross is usually about suffering, sacrifice, or burdens – but it also represents the gift of faith or devotion that allows us to rise above such experiences. Keep in mind that whatever it is you are being asked to bear,  you have resources within and surrounding yourself that can ease that burden. Significant number: 6

Sagittarius: CHILD (13)
Such a great card for Sagittarius, the “eternal child.” Interaction with a child or an experience with your own “inner child” is indicated for June, and this could give you a fresh perspective on something you thought you understood. Keep an open mind and don’t let inexperience prevent you from discovering something wonderful. Significant numbers: 13, 4

Capricorn: FOX (14)
Be on guard for trickery this month, Capricorn! Someone you think you know may be manipulating you or using you to further their own agenda. Do not allow yourself to be charmed into accepting things at face value. Remain vigilant and responsible (shouldn’t be difficult for a Capricorn). Significant numbers: 14, 5

Aquarius: KEY (33)
Aquarius, prepare to be empowered this month as you discover the answer to a mystery or problem that has perplexed you. There is a sense here that you are “destined” to solve a puzzle and open a door that was previously closed to you. Significant numbers: 33, 6

Pisces: CLOUDS (6)
Unfortunately, confusion and a tendency to daydream are both pretty common experiences for a Pisces, but this month those qualities could create more problems than usual. An issue or distraction comes at you suddenly, and you’ll need to sit up and take notice. Significant number: 6

Nothing says “make a choice” better than a fork in the road, Cancer. Here we see a path that splits around an engraved standing stone. One side of the path goes towards a body of water; the other goes uphill toward a forest. You do have options, whether you think so or not. You simply have to make the best decision you can with the information available. Significant numbers: 22, 4

Leo: TREE – HOLLY (5)
The appearance of the Holly Tree for you this month suggests an emphasis on health (body-mind-spirit) or your physical environment, Leo. The Holly is the tree of winter, and even if the literal season is not winter where you live, you may need to take a bit of a “winter” approach by looking inward or “hibernating” in some fashion for a time. Look for ways to nurture your health as well as your local environment. Significant number: 5

Virgo: FLOWERS (9)

Libra: FISH (34)
This month brings material success to Libras, possibly in the area of trade and commerce. There is a need to focus on quality rather than quantity. November Kipperscopes

After the idea came to me of drawing a card for each zodiac sign from the Mystical Kipper deck by Regula Elizabeth Fiechter with illustrations by Urban Trösch (AGM Urania), I decided to do a search for the word “Kipperscopes” to see if someone else was already doing something similar. The only thing that showed up in my search was a racehorse named Kipperscope. I love it. (You can check him out over at the _All Breed Database_.)

Anyway, I’m sure it’s possible that someone else is doing “horoscopes” with a Kipper deck, so I certainly won’t claim it as my own original idea. That would be just silly. But please do allow me to draw a card for each of you lovely zodiac signs!

However, I am going to proceed with this experiment as planned, just to see what comes of it. The “Significant Numbers” listed at the end of each Kipperscope are based on the numbers on the cards.
